Cropland area

A cultivation cycle is defined as the day after the harvest of the previous commodity to the harvest of the current commodity. It includes the field management events that happened between those two dates. Multiple cultivation cycles can happen within any given year.

The cropland area is the field area cultivated for the selected area, commodity and time period. When more than one cultivation cycle occurs within the selected time period, the field area cultivated is counted for each cycle's occurrence. As such, cropland area may not correspond to static field area.

Yield

  • Definition: the measurement of the amount of agricultural production harvested per unit of land area.

  • KPI goal: Maximize yield per unit of land area without introducing additional harm to the soil

  • KPI value(s):
    • Per geospatial aggregate unit, the total yield (KG) per crop per year
    • Per geospatial aggregate unit, the average yield (KG) per acre per crop per year
  • Metric calculation details: Regrow utilizes primary data, publicly available data sources (e.g. USDA ARMS and NASS surveys, USGS NAWQA, STATCAN for data for Canada) as well as partnerships in key sourcing regions. The scientific model DNDC also models crop growth and yields. The Regrow platform will utilize the data source with the highest level of certainty per its determination.
