MRV Tillage Practice Definitions
Here is a quick guide to help you understand tillage events and tillage practices:

An example of the MRV tillage data entry screen
A tillage event is any record that a farmer enters to indicate that they conducted a tillage operation on a field on a given date.
A tillage practice is a way to classify how the soil was tilled during a tillage event—or if it was tilled at all.
You can use the following table as guidance to determine the appropriate tillage practice to enter for your tillage events.
| Tillage practice | Definition | Management activity examples | Soil disturbance depth |
| Conventional till | Deep tillage, any soil inversion |
|
10-30cm |
| Reduced | Shallow tillage, no more than 3 tillage events or passes, soil is not inverted |
|
1-10cm |
| No till |
Direct seeding systems, minimal additional field work. Indicate this in the platform by turning the tillage event toggle "off". |
