This document illustrates a thorough, step-by-step guide for the accurate entry of structured crop events.
Introduction
The launch of the MRV Data Platform 2.0 enhances the grower enrollment experience by ensuring greater accuracy, predictability, and scalability throughout the data input process.
This article offers comprehensive guidance on the precise input of your crop events, covering both commodity and cover crops.
It is advisable to input your crop data before addressing any of the subsequent stages. This will ensure that the crop and crop year date range is accurately recorded, allowing for a label that is clearly displayed in the subsequent stages.
Crop year
The date range (years of data) for the required data is specified within the stage description. Please ensure that you input data for any crops that have been harvested or terminated within the period specified in the header.
The crop years will be automatically displayed in the data table.
The crop year label will automatically populate upon the entry of the commodity crop and harvest dates.
The data is automatically sorted upon entry, organizing the crop years in a chronological order, with the most recent crops positioned at the top of the list. The date range for a crop year extends from the harvest of the current commodity to the harvest of the preceding commodity.
Entering data
- Begin by entering the required data into the appropriate cells. The drop-down menus offer an efficient search function, facilitating the swift identification and selection of the required inputs.
What if my crop is not present in the dropdown selection?
The dropdown only includes crops that are presently modeled. If a user’s crop history includes an unsupported crop, they should remove that field from registration during the Fields Stage.
- Input the planting and harvest dates either manually or using the date picker (select the calendar icon).
- Data entry cells will become accessible automatically upon the application of a specific crop usage. For commodity crops, the cell for entering harvested residue will be enabled for input.
Adding cover crops
To incorporate additional events, such as cover crops, please select the "Add event" button situated at the top right corner of the table.
For cover crops, the termination method cell will be activated for data entry.
Adding fallow periods
1. Select "Fallow" under the crop type drop-down menu.
2. Please input the dates during which the field was fallow. This will indicate that no commodity crop was cultivated during that specific period within the crop year cycle.
- For the planting date of fallow periods: Provide your best approximation of when a commodity crop would normally have been planted, had this field not been left fallow.
- For the harvest date of fallow periods: Provide your best approximation of when a commodity crop would normally have been harvested, had this field not been left fallow. This date can also be interpreted as the day preceding the commencement of agricultural practices in preparation for the subsequent commodity crop.
Saving and editing your data
- Upon completing each data entry, it is essential to click the save button to secure your input and prevent any loss of information before proceeding to the next stage.
- Data can be modified at any time by selecting the edit (pencil) icon or by double-clicking on the cell. After making the necessary adjustments, be sure to save your changes to ensure they are recorded.
- Data rows that were added in error can be efficiently removed by using the delete button.
- Once the data has been successfully saved, the crop cultivation information will be updated accordingly, as reflected in the first column of the table, under "Crop year".
- Data rows added through the "Add event" button will seamlessly integrate into the corresponding crop year.
