Learn how you can enhance the insights you gain in the emissions created within your supply chain with volumes sourced per supply area.
Regrow’s Volume-Capped Emissions feature enables CPG and Agribusiness customers to prioritize regenerative agriculture investments based on the regions and suppliers that have the highest volume-capped carbon abatement potential.
For customers at different stages of their sustainability journey, this feature offers a way to focus regenerative agriculture investments in high-impact supply sheds, aligning sustainability efforts with sourcing priorities. With this update, customers can get a regenerative investment path to 2030, optimized for sourced volumes and carbon abatement potential per commodity and subregion.
While this article won't cover how to use Sustainability Insights Report with volumes sourced to enhance your insights into emissions produced in your supply chain and how to incorporate volume-capped Emissions Factors in sustainability reporting, you can read more about that here.
Enhancements to the PlanAI Module: Ranking by Volume-Capped Abatement Potential
As part of this feature, we have enhanced PlanAI to provide an option for ranking based on volume-capped abatement potential. This allows users to:
-
Prioritize regions with the highest potential for emissions reductions, capped by sourcing volume.
-
Compare abatement opportunities across supply sheds based on both emissions intensity and total sourced volume.
-
Choose between ranking purely by abatement potential or factoring in volume constraints, offering more precise decision-making in regenerative agriculture investments.
This enhancement ensures that customers not only identify high-emitting supply sheds but also target investments where they can drive the most impact, aligning sustainability initiatives with sourcing priorities.
How to create a Plan optimized for volumes sourced
Click on the "Edit Plan" button at the top right corner of the PlanAI page. Select the option "Total abatement potential (volume-capped)" from the drop down. Click "Regenerate Plan". Please note that this will remove all existing MRV projections from your plan and re-add MRV projections based on this ranking method and projected practice adoption rates.
Methodology: How Volume-Capped Abatement Potential Is Calculated in Sustainability Insights PlanAI
1. Abatement Potential Calculations
Sustainability Insights PlanAI calculates abatement potential for each subregion, commodity, and intervention combination available in the program configuration. See here for more on the relevant methodology and assumptions.
2. Acres Needed to Grow Volume
Using volume sourced per commodity and subregion and additional data on the yield of that commodity grown per acre, SI PlanAI now also calculates the acres required to grow the commodity volume.
- Formula:
Volume of Commodity Sourced in Subregion A / Yield of Commodity produced per Acre in Subregion A
3. Volume-capped abatement potential
To calculate volume-capped abatement potential, we use the following formula
- Formula:
Acres Needed to grow Commodity in Subregion A * Abatement Potential per Acre of Intervention in fields that grow Commodity in Subregion A
